By joining CIXP, Vaultica further expands its presence within Europe’s interconnection ecosystems, contributing to a network that brings together more than 40 members, including telecommunications operators, Internet service providers, research networks and international organisations.
Geneve, July 2026 – Vaultica Data Centers (“Vaultica”), the new leading provider of enterprise colocation services, today announced that it has joined CIXP, the CERN Internet Exchange Point, one of Europe’s Internet interconnection hubs operating since the early days of the modern Internet.
With Vaultica joining, CIXP now brings together more than 40 members from across Europe and other international markets, further strengthening its role as a neutral and trusted platform for exchanging Internet traffic among network operators, Internet service providers, research institutions and international organisations.
Established at CERN in 1996, CIXP was created to provide a neutral location where networks could interconnect efficiently, securely and reliably. Over nearly three decades, it has become a key hub for a broad and highly specialised ecosystem, which includes a number of national research and education organisations and networks from Europe and beyond.
For Vaultica, joining the CERN Internet Exchange Point marks another step in strengthening its digital infrastructure and its ability to support businesses, operators and organisations in managing increasingly connected, distributed and mission-critical services.
As demand for digital capacity continues to grow – driven by cloud computing, artificial intelligence, data-driven services and emerging digital sovereignty requirements – the quality of interconnection is becoming increasingly important. The challenge is not simply to increase available capacity, but also to ensure more efficient, resilient and sustainable routes for data traffic.
Internet Exchange Points such as CIXP play a vital role in achieving this goal. They enable networks to exchange traffic directly, reducing their reliance on longer or more complex routes and helping to improve the performance, reliability and continuity of digital services. When traffic remains local or follows more efficient routes, data travels shorter distances, delivering benefits not only in terms of latency and service quality, but also energy efficiency.
CIXP operates on a non-profit, cost-recovery basis, prioritising service quality, neutrality and reliability rather than infrastructure scale alone. This approach makes it particularly relevant for organisations requiring robust, efficient and independent connectivity at a time when stable and secure access to data has become essential to economic competitiveness, scientific research and business continuity.
Vaultica’s joining is therefore part of a broader vision. It entails contributing to the development of a stronger, more interconnected and sustainable European digital infrastructure, capable of supporting businesses and institutions as they evolve in an environment increasingly dependent on the availability, proximity and quality of data.
“Joining the CERN Internet Exchange Point represents an important milestone for Vaultica and is fully aligned with our vision for digital infrastructure – open, resilient, efficient and increasingly responsive to the real-world needs of businesses, operators and institutions,” said Sherif Rizkalla, CEO of Vaultica. “The Internet is often perceived as something intangible, but every digital service relies on networks, data centers, fibre and interconnection points that determine its quality, reliability and sustainability. At a time when Europe must strengthen its digital autonomy, working with ecosystems such as CIXP means making a tangible contribution to building more robust, efficient and sustainable connectivity for the future.”
