A strategic infrastructure investment to support local development and strengthen Italy’s technology ecosystem, amid growing demand for cloud and Artificial Intelligence

Milan, 12 March 2025 – Vaultica Data Centers (“Vaultica”), the new leading provider of colocation services for businesses, today celebrated the groundbreaking of its new MIL03 Data Center—an investment worth €100 million—set to be built in the Municipality of Settimo Milanese, in the Milan metropolitan area.

The ceremony marks the official start of work on an infrastructure designed to meet the growing demand for computing capacity and cloud services, driven by companies’ digital transformation, the rapid adoption of artificial intelligence, and the increasing volumes of data produced and analyzed every day. In this context, data centers are becoming an ever more strategic asset to ensure operational continuity, information security, and competitiveness for local and national economic systems.

The development of the MIL03 site comes at a time of strong expansion in the data center market: in recent years, demand for digital infrastructure has risen rapidly, fueled by cloud computing, artificial intelligence, digital services, and data-intensive applications.

Against this backdrop, the Milan metropolitan area is establishing itself as one of Europe’s leading digital hubs, attracting a growing number of cloud operators, hyperscalers, and technology companies. Thanks to its strategic location, MIL03 will help strengthen this evolving technology ecosystem.

Vaultica’s new site is designed to address these needs through a flexible and scalable infrastructure. The data center will be developed to support racks with average loads of 10 kW and peaks of up to 40 kW—a configuration designed to handle high-performance computing applications required by cloud platforms and AI-related workloads.

In addition, the infrastructure will be designed in accordance with ANSI/TIA Tier III standards, with certain elements aligned with Tier IV best practices, ensuring high levels of resilience, security, and operational continuity.

Beyond the data center itself, the project also includes the construction of a dedicated office building. The entire facility will be developed with particular attention to environmental and landscape aspects, with a path toward LEED certification, one of the leading international standards for sustainable buildings. This approach also includes the decision to define volumes and heights lower than those permitted under Settimo Milanese’s current urban planning framework, with the aim of reducing visual impact and improving integration into the surrounding context.

“The groundbreaking of the MIL03 data center marks an important milestone for Vaultica,” said Sherif Rizkalla, CEO of Vaultica. “The growing digitalization of the economy requires resilient, secure and efficient infrastructure, and with this project we want to contribute to the development of an increasingly robust digital ecosystem, supporting businesses and institutions in managing data and adopting the most advanced technologies. At the same time, we are working to deliver an infrastructure that can integrate harmoniously with the local area.”

With the launch of the project, Vaultica confirms its commitment to developing next-generation digital infrastructure in Europe, helping to support the growth of the data economy and the transition toward an increasingly digital and connected productive system.
